Explore the architectural brilliance of the royal cenotaphs of the former rulers of Jodhpur at the Mandore Garden. Situated 9 kilometres off Jodhpur, Mandore was once the capital of the sate of Marwar. Subsequently, it was abandoned for the safety of the Mehrangarh Fort.
The most striking feature of the Mandore garden is the cenotaph of the erstwhile Jodhpur ruler, Maharaja Ajit Singh. There is a series of cenotaphs that you will see while you are in Mandore garden. These cenotaphs are set amidst the beautiful landscaped gardens.
The shape of these cenotaphs varies from the typical Rajasthani chhatri-shaped cenotaphs. They were rather made on the lines of Hindu temples. Built in red sandstone, these cenotaphs are four storied high with elegant columns and exquisite spirals.
Then there is the Hall of Heroes which is dedicated to several deities and folk heroes. The statues present here are sliced out of rock and finished in bright colours.
The next door leads you to The Shrine of the Three Hundred Million Gods which is heavily studded with brilliantly coloured images of different Hindu Gods. You can reach the city of Mandore from here. The Mandore Garden can be explored at its best from 8 AM up to 8 PM.
