Albert Hall Museum, also known as the Government Central Museum, is one of the oldest museums of Jaipur. It restores the majesty of the Maharajas of Jaipur.
The Albert Hall Museum is located in the heartland of Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan. It is situated in the Ramnivas Gardens, a famous tourist attraction in Jaipur. It is one amongst the oldest and the most popular museums present in the city. Popularly known as the Central Museum, it was established in the year 1876 under the supervision of Lieutenant Swinton Jacob. It was believed that the king of Jaipur, Maharaja Ram Singh, wanted to build this museum for his personal utilization.
The design and architecture of the museum is quite exquisite. It is one of its own kind in the city. It has been built following the Indo-Sarcenic style of architecture. The museum houses a number of courtyards,archways and towers. The Albert Hall Museum, therefore, stands as an epitome of rich architectural heritage of the country.
The Albert Hall Museum displays several unusual and striking things. Several miniature paintings embellish the walls of The Albert Hall Museum. These miniature paintings belong to different schools of paintings such as Jaipur, Kota, Udaipur, Kishangarh and Bundi. Portraits of the royal kings have also been displayed on the first floor of the museum. Other valuable artworks include metal artwork, carving and huge jewelry collection. In addition to these, brass articles also deserve a mention.
Spectacular woodworks, refined carvings, clay wares and traditional dresses of the king constitute the other specialties of the Albert Hall Museum. It remains open from 10.30 in the morning to 4.30 in the evening. The museum restore the majesty and aristocracy of the Maharajas of Jaipur.
