History of Jaipur
The history of Jaipur city dates back to 1727. It was founded by Maharaja Jai Singh II, a famous Kachhwaha Rajput, who ruled the city from 1699-1744. Initially, Amber was his capital that lies at a distance of 11 kms from the pink city. Jaipur is the first planned city of the country that was constructed after consulting several books on architecture.
About the Fort
Built in white marble and red sandstone is the stunning Amber Fort in Jaipur. Making its foreground, Maotha Lake adds to its charm. The crystal mirror image of the fort on the still waters of the lake seems and amazing illusion. Usually pronounced as Amer Fort, it was constructed by Raja Man Singh I and later on its construction was accomplished by Raja Jai Singh I. The outer appearance of this famous for is rough and craggy.
Inside the Fort
The interior of the Amber Fort offers a soothing and warm ambiance. The stunning decoration of the fort is influenced by Hindu and Muslim style of ornamentation. You can find the walls adorned with exquisite paintings of hunting scenes on the walls, depicting the royalty of the Rajputs. The intricate carvings on the walls and ceilings just leave the visitors surprised. The minute mirror work also enhances the grand appearance of the halls. Its artistic quality of delicate work captivates the onlookers.
This magnificent fort is divided into four subparts, which are:
Kali Temple
Known as Shila Devi Temple, this temple forms an important part of the fort. It is famous for its glorious past, silver lions and doors. Diwan-E-Aam, the hall of public audiences is a beautiful pavilion with double row of columns.
Ganesh Pol
It is another important feature of the fort, designating the way to the majestic apartments of the kings. From Ganesh Pol, you can easily head towards a spectacular garden or Charbagh, based on the Mughal pattern of gardens.
Jai Mandir
Popularly known as 'The Hall of Victory', it has an astonishing ceiling comprised of beautiful mirror work and an inlaid panel. The fort boasts of numerous other halls and pavilions with their own magnetic charm.
