Entirely a women's festival devoted to the worship of Shiva and Parvati. The belief attached to this festival is that Goddess Parvati was united with Lord Shiva. She waited for this day for years. On Teej Married Women offer prayers for a long and fulfilling married life. They dress up very beautifully. All decked up in silver, gold and lac jewelry, also apply mehndi (henna-to color their hands). It is held in the months of monsoon (July-August). Although this festival is celebrated in most of the north-west parts of India but no one can beat Rajasthanis when it comes to celebrating Teej. Its time for the sweet tooth to satiate itself as lots of sweets are made on this day. Markets should be visited during the festival as that time they have a lot to offer.
