Lohagarh fort (the Iron fort) was constructed by Maharaja Suraj Mal (a Jat ruler) in the 18th century. It is an evidence of the chivalry of the Jat rulers. It is known as Lohagarh because of its strong and secure defenses. The fort is encircled and protected by moats. Though, it is not as showy as the other forts in the region but its magnificence and strength is unbeatable. The fort remains open from 10 in the morning to 4.30 in the evening from Saturday to Thursday.
The fort houses some fascinating structures namely Kishori Mahal, Moti Mahal, Kothi Khas and Mahal Khas. Fateh Burj and Jawahar Burj were also constructed by Suraj Mal within the fort so as to mark his victories over the British and the Mughals. The Ashtadhatu gateway (eight-metal gateway) with paintings of elephants is fascinating. Because of its matchless strength, the fort thwarted several British attacks. Though, the British had four times laid siege to this fort but they had to raise it on all occasions.
