Chittorgarh Chittorgarh is known as the legendary city. It is one of most wonderful cities of Rajasthan which has witnessed the chivalry and sacrifice of Rajputs. The city has numerous forts and palaces that make Chittorgarh a place worth to visit.
The history of Chittorgarh holds a significant place in the entire Indian history. It is full of the tales of heroism and chivalry of the great Rajput warriors. The origin of Chittorgarh can be found in the 7th century. It was previously known as Chitrakut, after a Rajput named Chitrang. The Kingdom of Chittorgarh was given to Bappa Rawal as dowry at the time of his marriage to Solanki. Bappa Rawal's descendants ruled the place from 8th to 16th century.
Chittorgarh fort is an architectural marvel, standing with the legacy of glorious past. Situated on a height of 180 m, this fort sprawls over 700 acres. Showcasing some imposing sculptures inside it, the fort has witnessed three battles.
Chittorgarh fort is in the southern part of Rajashtan. The fort is a depiction of ancient Rajput culture and their values. This fort is situated on a high hill near the Gambheri river in Chittorgarh. The fort lies at a distance of 112 kms from Udaipur. It was built by various Maurya rulers in the 7th century.
The impressive fort also encloses the beautiful palaces of Maha Rani Padmini and Maharana Kumbha, Vijay Stamba (Tower of Victory), Kirthi Stamba (Tower of Fame) and many other ancient revered temples. Another important attraction in the fort is the Fateh Prakash Mahal, showcasing some of the imposing sculptures.
There are various other famous attractions in Chittorgarh such as Kumbha Shyam Temple, Meerabai Temple, Gaumukh Reservoir and Archaeological Museum.
